An attempt to leave the central highlands by GC 604, only to discover it became a forest track at the end of the lake! The valley had, however, been the victim of the summer fires of, I believe 2007. Among the burned-over hillside is a house clearly bearing burn marks and now, like some others I later observed, abandoned.

Although I had seen some palm trees with burned trunks, this set of pines were very prominent . and the new growth on the right a result of some autumn rains.

The lake at Chira is somewhat drawn down and indicates the autumn rains have not begun in earnest. On the right the boundary between two lava flows, and very different ones at that, on the forest track part of the road!
